It's Friday afternoon and we're sweating on another Hendra virus rule-out. These things always seem to happen on Friday afternoon, and this one sounds like it could definitely be Hendra. The result comes in and, once again, like it is 99 times out of 100, it's negative. Thank goodness!

Please forward on this web address to everyone you know, no matter what discipline or part of the equine industry ... www.SayNotoVoluntaryEIVaccination.com This is our last chance to SAY NO to voluntary EI vaccination - vote NO now There is scientific evidence to support the view that voluntary vaccination will lead to Equine Influenza being re-introduced to Australia.
Not only will we have wasted millions of dollars to eradicate it but will adversely affect the health of our horses, our industries and our pockets. Please pass on the web address to all: www.SayNotoVoluntaryEIVaccination.com
Show our strength... we have the numbers..... stand up and be noticed! We only have till the 18th April, so please pass it on! |

HRA Concerned At Reports that Federal Government Will Advocate Voluntary Vaccination
Harness Racing Australia (HRA) is deeply concerned at reports that the Minister for Agriculture, Tony Burke, will advocate for voluntary vaccination of horses from Equine Influenza.
HRA Chief Executive, Andrew Kelly, today said, “Allowing for voluntary vaccination against EI is an admission of failure and a vote of no confidence in the abilities of Australia’s quarantine authorities to defend our borders from exotic diseases. We know that’s not the case.”

Voluntary EI vaccination – you have to be joking!
In late March the Federal Minister for Agriculture, Tony Burke, announced his support to allow selective EI vaccination for Australia’s racehorses against widespread advice from veterinarians and other experts that such a policy is ill-advised.
I am about to go through some of the facts, figures and misconceptions that go with EI but firstly let me very quickly give you (A) my take on why Tony Burke has done this, (B) why the thoroughbred industry is angling for this to happen and (C) why it is just plain stupid.

Due to circumstances beyond his control our international guest judge Mr Scott Benjamin is unable to fulfill his judging duties at this year's Qld Arabian Challenge Show. Fortunately he has kindly assisted in securing Mr Van Jacobsen to replace him. Mr Jacobsen is a Big R judge on the AHA's National Panel list and has had extensive experience judging. Read on for a little background from Scott. We will post a bio shortly but Scott's recomendation is glowing and we look forward to a great show with confidence.
